SCHIPHOL
VR DRIVING SIMULATOR

Fasten your virtual seatbelt: driving on the airside, practised in VR.

Training personnel who operate vehicles on Schiphol’s airside is expensive, labour-intensive and not without risk. Together with Recreate, Schiphol developed a VR driving simulator that makes it safer, more efficient and more scalable.

About Schiphol

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the main international airport of the Netherlands. Established in 1916, it has since become one of the busiest airports in Europe, a major hub for both passenger and cargo flights. Schiphol is the home base of KLM and is known for its innovation and pleasant user experience, with a wide range of services and comfortable lounges.

The challenge

Schiphol needs to train the employees who operate vehicles on the airport’s airside. Conducting this training poses several difficulties: it is not cost beneficial, it requires significant resources, only a limited number of trainers is available and there are safety risks involved.

A VR driving simulator as proof of concept

To address these constraints, Schiphol partnered with Recreate to develop a virtual reality driving simulator as a proof of concept. This innovative solution provides a safer, more efficient and more cost-effective way to train Schiphol personnel.

Recreate developed a highly realistic driving simulator specifically tailored for Schiphol, providing a cost-effective and scalable alternative to traditional training methods.
